Enjoyment at work: not just lip service at Arlewo, but firmly anchored in the company values. A workshop gave rise to the idea of developing our own “joy barometer” to receive feedback from employees every two weeks. In the form of a Google survey.

The problem with this? After almost four years on the job, the employees got tired of answering the same question (“How are you?”). And for Benjamin Blum, Head of Human Resources & Member of the Management Board, the effort was also enormous. After all, feedback and comments had to be evaluated manually every two weeks. At a time when Arlewo was growing from around 90 to 150 employees.

The right questions at the right time

So teamecho came at just the right time. For 10 months now, Arlewo employees have been receiving an automated, anonymous short survey from teamecho every two weeks instead of a Google survey.

There is no longer a lack of variety: an intelligent algorithm automatically asks different questions – and always the right ones for the time at hand. Employees share their perceptions on a scale of 1 to 7. The textual comments, which the tool automatically clusters into topic areas, offer even more “meat on the bone”.

“The topic window is now of course much more open, much more exciting. (…) You can see which trends and moods prevail in which area or team and can therefore take appropriate measures,” Benjamin Blum is pleased to say. In the meantime, teamecho has even replaced the annual employee survey at Arlewo.

And what’s more: “I’ve found that it’s easier to discuss things with my management colleagues when you have figures, when you have hard facts. (…) Basically, teamecho is simply exciting because it is a digital door opener. You can use the digital to bring the personal to the fore.”
